Paua to the People is the retailer supporting the Kainga Ora Multi Trader Trial. This ground breaking trial is the first time in New Zealand that multiple retailers have been able to supply a single meter.
Kainga Ora have installed solar panels on 170 of their Wellington properties. Tenants in the properties can use the power generated during the day for free and still get to choose which retailer they want to supply their electricity and can switch to another supplier without issue. The excess power gerenerated by the panels and injected into the Grid is sold by Paua to the People on the wholesale electricity market for Kainga Ora.

THE FUTURE OF MULTIPLE TRADING
To support this trial Paua to the People and the other partners (Wellington Electricity, Bluecurrent and Intellihub) were required to obtain exemptions from the regulator. This unfortunately means that we are unable to apply this innovative solution to others.
